Test Bench Demos

Finished stress and flow tests anyone can open and inspect: the setup, the result in 3D and the numbers. No credits required to look around.

BetaTest bench is in beta. Runs are billed by the minute of server time.

Does the wing bracket hold?

Bracket Stress

Does the wing bracket hold?

The PLA bracket that holds a glider wing, fixed at its mounting face, with 30 N backwards and 8 N down on the wing face. The quick run solves 23,659 elements in 18 seconds: a peak stress of 2.7 MPa, 0.11 mm of movement and a safety factor of 18.5, so the bracket could lose material. Turn up the deformation to see it bend.

Wing Flow

A glider wing at 12 m/s.

The glider wing at 4 degrees angle of attack in a 12 m/s stream of air. The quick run converges after 104 iterations with 3.0 N of lift and 0.33 N of drag, a lift coefficient of 0.58 at a Reynolds number of about 96,000. Play the streaks, colour the surface by pressure or wall shear, and cut slices through the flow.

Spinning Propeller

A propeller at 8000 rpm.

A small propeller spinning at 8000 rpm in a 5 m/s stream of air. The accurate run gives 1.38 N of thrust for 0.022 N·m of torque, an efficiency of 0.38. The single arrow shows the thrust along the spin axis.

Hull in Water

A model boat hull at 1 m/s.

A 500 mm hull from the flowshapes library, sitting 40 mm deep in water at 1 m/s. The domain ends at the waterline, so only the part below it is wetted. The quick run converges after 123 iterations with 0.58 N of drag and 1.81 N of suction pulling the hull down. The water surface is flat, so wave drag is not included.

A test bench needs an assembly to test. Build one in CAD, then add a test bench to the project.
